What you need to know about… Stock Plzen – Bozkov

Stock Plzeň – Božkov is a producer of traditional spirits which has been offering high-quality products to its customers for more than eighty years and is currently the industry leader in the Czech Republic. Stock Plzeň commands more than thirty per cent of the market, and its broad range of products includes thirty types of high-quality branded spirits.

Fernet Stock is the company’s flagship product. It is the country’s most popular domestic spirit and together with Fernet Stock Citrus dominates the Czech spirits market today. In addition to the two famous fernets, Stock Plzeň – Božkov offers many other branded products, for example the Magister fine herbal liqueur, the premium Key Rum, Božkov Tuzemský, Brandy Stock Original, the Whisky Cream Stock cream liqueur, Whisky Printer’s and Vodka Amundsen. Stock Plzeň – Božkov also distributes premium foreign products such as Chantré, a French cognac, Tullamore Dew, an Irish whiskey, and the Carolans cream liqueur.

Stock Plzeň endeavours to continuously offer its customers something novel. The company therefore launches several innovations and completely new products every year. For example, in 2003 it was Slivovice Stock, NRG – an alcoholic beverage based on Fernet Stock and containing taurine and caffeine, and the family of the Amundsen fruit vodkas. In 2004 Stock Plzeň made inroads into the wine segment: together with the highly renowned Moravian winemaker Miloš Michlovský, the company launched the Král Vinohradu varietal wines. The company’s wine portfolio is steadily growing broader, and today includes top-class imported wines such as Great Southern Wines and certain French wines.

One of the most successful companies in the country, Stock Plzeň – Božkov sold 20.76 million litres of spirits in 2004. Traditionally, the brands that have contributed most to the successful sales figures are Fernet Stock and Fernet Stock Citrus, and also Božkov Tuzemský, the most popular product in its category in the Czech Republic. But Stock Plzeň’s products are becoming increasingly popular in other countries too, primarily, although not exclusively, in Slovakia. In 2004 the company exported more than 2.33 million litres of spirits, which represents an increase in exports of about 19 per cent on the previous year. Besides the traditional Slovak market, the company is becoming increasingly successful in many other foreign markets, for example, in Slovenia, Finland, Spain, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, the US, and Australia.

Stock Plzeň – Božkov reports excellent results on a regular basis. For example, in 2004 the company generated revenues of CZK 1.46 billion (without the excise duty), and its profit after tax was CZK 188 million.

Translated into figures, Stock Plzeň’s popularity means that over the last ten years alone more than 216 million litres of the producer’s spirits were consumed. For the sake of interest, this is more than 5 billion glasses. In fact, these products are so popular that every third bottle of spirits consumed in the Czech Republic currently comes from Stock Plzeň.

Although Stock Plzeň – Božkov is the largest spirits producer in the Czech Republic, the company is not indifferent to the culture of alcohol consumption. This is why Stock Plzeň is one of the founding members of the Forum PSR (Pijte s rozumem) [the Drink Responsibly Forum], which brings together the country’s major producers and distributors of spirits for the purpose of fighting against alcohol abuse. The Forum focuses primarily on preventive and educational projects aimed against serving alcohol to minors and against drunken driving. Forum members have also pledged to observe a code of conduct that strictly regulates their advertising activities.

Stock Plzeň offers its customers more than just well-loved spirits; you can also buy T-shirts, caps, and rucksacks featuring the colours of the most popular products. Merchandise can be ordered via the Stock Shop virtual shop.
